Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening, is a surgical procedure in which Dr. Ribeiro will remove excess gum tissue, and modify surrounding bone to expose more tooth structure, effectively lengthening your teeth! Sometimes, laser procedure is recommended to conventional surgical procedure to achieve best results.
Gummy smile? Crown lengthening can be your solution.
There are several reasons why you may need a crown lengthening:
Aesthetic: Your pearly whites are a little smaller than you would like, and your smile is half white and half gum tissue, it’s okay to want a brighter smile! Crown lengthening allows the exposure of your natural teeth, to either rock them naturally or place veneers or crowns.
Deep caries: Your cavity was so deep that once removed, your general dentist doesn’t have enough exposed tooth structure to effectively design a crown. Instead of losing the tooth, Dr. Ribeiro can remove and modify excess gum tissue and bone to allow your general dentist to design and cement your new tooth crown.
Tooth wear: Based on people’s lifestyle and often times genes, some patients can wear down their teeth profoundly, either by grinding, clenching, or simply wear. An effective way to expose more tooth structure is by a crown lengthening procedure to allow your general dentist to attach the planned restoration either crowns or veneers to restore your functionality and smile.
Dental trauma: If you suffered a dental injury and your general dentist needs to attach a restoration to restore your tooth but doesn’t have enough tooth structure to work with, often times, a crown lengthening will be needed to expose the needed tooth structure to cement your restorations, like a crown or a bridge.
